Long time since I blogged here, but things are busy and this aspect of things has been a bit of a low priority. Lots of opportunity presenting itself though as we go along.

Recently spoke to the Oshawa Art Association and had a great time. Several people commented and hopefully they will sponsor some bears.

With Ed Dickson http://link127.org/ coming to Canada soon, we get to make some more preparation. I am learning that he has “home orphanages” where small family size groups of kids are cared for. With the exception of Sunshine Orphanage in Krivoy Rog, we are going to focus of getting the bears to a few of these orphanages first. Looking to create successful baby steps.

A team from Hamilton is set to go to Ukraine in October so we need to make connections in order to have them take a bag of bears. Cost gets cut way down when people can take bears and more kids can be reached faster. Head over to the HopeJuelle Publishing page of  my website to make your orders http://leoncburt.com/hjp.html

Helping kids is amazing. Be blessed!

On June 27, we took the Glow Bear Project to the people for the first time: The Whitby Town Carnival.

Lots of people took flyers and heard about the heart of the project. We hope to raise the funds to send 100 000 bears to Ukrainian Orphans to make life just a little brighter.

At the end of the day, we had sold enough bears and sponsorships to send 15 bears. We also sold a couple of books and made some contacts which may allow us to bring the Glow Bear Project to several community groups and schools. We look forward to our first 250 bears being sponsored so we can go to our first orphanage and bring a little light into a dark place.

A friend had a very cool idea about how to get involved in this project and have some fun at the same time. She had an end of school party for her kids. She had asked that no gifts be exchanged, the party was only for fun….but then the Glow Bears came along.

She picked up a bear so the kids and parents could see exactly what the children in Ukraine would be getting. The parents and kids responded amazingly. With just her few friends, enough was collected so that 5 kids can have a Glow Bear! Absolutely awesome!! Five kids will learn just how much value they have and be given a gift they could never have afforded if we didn’t support them.

Thanks to you Donna from the Glow Bear Project and more importantly, 5 kids in Ukraine say a huge “THANK YOU!!!!!!! Remember to go to www.leoncburt.com to purchase.

Every night thousands of children in Ukraine and other countries of the former Soviet Union go to sleep in dark rooms with no one to love them and nothing to hold on to.  These children are orphans,  10% of which are orphaned due to the death of parents, and the remaining 90% are social orphans: those removed from families for a variety of issues or simply “dropped off” by parents who do not want to care for them any more. Each year, between 8000 and 9000 children become new social orphans according to ‘Heart of the Bride’, an non profit orphan organization based in Florida.

For many millions of children, a teddy bear is a daily reminder that someone loves them. It is the symbol most often used by parents to confirm to their child that someone is there. “If you don’t see Mommy or Daddy, just hold on to Teddy and he will keep you safe till Mommy and Daddy arrive.” As soon as many of us grew to the age where we no longer wanted to have our ‘security blanket,’ we moved on to our teddy as the one article we would never leave behind.

Many of the children who live in the orphanage system in Ukraine will simply never have the opportunity to have a teddy bear of their own, because the money for such a luxury is simply not there. If orphanages gave toys such as teddy bears, it would be in lieu of food or some other necessity of life.

These children need something to hold on to, physically, to take away the fears of a long dark night.

This is where you can help!

By purchasing a Glow Bear, you partner with What If Productions, HopeJuelle Publishing and thousands of other caring people who are helping to bring just a little light into some very dark places. After exposing the glow bear’s fur to any light source for just a few seconds, the fur glows in the dark for hours. If a child wakes up afraid, they can easily find their Teddy and fall back to sleep.

Our goal is to purchase and send a glow bear to every orphan in Ukraine. Approximately 100 000 bears will be needed to fulfill our goal. Make your contribution to this worldwide event by visiting the “HopeJuelle Publishing” page at www.leoncburt.com.
